Tom Jones was born this day in 1940 in South Wales. At age 12 he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and spent 2 years in bed recovering. During this time he could do little else but listen to the radio and draw. His bluesy vocal delivery developed out of listening to artists like Little Richard, Solomon Burke, Jackie Wilson and others. Earlier this year, Jack White produced and released Tom covering Howlin' Wolf's "Evil" on White's Third Man Records. Last month, Jones released a new album, Spirit In The Room.
