Tina Turner (Anna Mae Bullock) was born this day in 1939 in Nutbush, TN.  From her early days with Ike to her massively successful solo years, Tina proved nobody could put on a show like she could.  She was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1991.  Here's some highlights showcasing some of her blues leaning songs...

Ike Turner was born this day in 1931

Ike Turner was born this day in 1931 in Clarksdale, MS.  Years before he started a duo career with Tina Turner, Ike played key roles with his band "Kings Of Rhythm" in early Rock & Roll and blues.  In fact, many regard a recording called "Rocket 88" that featured Ike on the piano (song credited to Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats) to be the first rock and roll record.  This recording has one of the first examples of guitar distortion.  This was a result of the amp falling off the truck and puncturing the speaker en route to record this song with Sam Phillips in Memphis.  The piece of paper and tape used to fix the amp gave it that distorted sound.  Check it out here...

Jimmy Reed was born this day in 1925 and passed away in 1976.  His musical impact continues to live on long after his death.  His songs have been covered by Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Them (featuring Van Morrison), Dion DiMucci, Ike & Tina Turner, Etta James, Erma Franklin (Aretha's sister), Grateful Dead, Neil Young and many others.  Elvis himself covered several of Reed's tunes including this one..."Baby What You Want Me To Do"...
