The great Fats Domino unfortunately passed away on October 24 at 89 years old.  His musical legacy and influence is strong and will be felt for generations.  We hear a couple of songs from Fats including a Christmas tune to kick it off plus covers from Buddy Holly, Rosie Flores and Linda Gail Lewis.  We also hear Christmas tracks from Ricky Nelson, Ricky's sons Matthew & Gunnar, Rocky Burnette, Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Miss Mary Ann & The Ragtime Wranglers plus a Christmas instru-Mental Breakdown with Joel Paterson, Reverend Horton Heat and Danny B. Richard Wayne Penniman (Little Richard) was born this day in 1932.  He's often referred to as the "Architect Of Rock & Roll" for the explosive foundation he laid out for the growing genre in the 50's.  His influence can be felt on artists like Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Prince, Jimi Hendrix (who played in Richard's band in the mid-60's), Elton John, Rod Stewart, Michael Jackson and so many more.  Take a look at some of his amazing career...

Little Richard begins 1st recording session in 1951

"Little" Richard Penniman holds his first recording session this day in 1951.  He recorded several singles for RCA and later for Peacock before his successful time at Specialty Records beginning in 1955.  Here's his first single on RCA called "Every Hour" along with the B-side "Taxi Blues"....

The Beatles play their final Cavern Club performance in 1963

The Beatles played their last of 292 appearances at The Cavern Club on August 3rd, 1963.  Ringo had replaced Pete Best in August of 1962.  This final appearance was only a month after "She Loves You" was released and about 6 months before their first United States visit.  Their setlist included several Rockabilly and Soul cover tunes from the likes of Chuck Berry, Arthur Alexander, Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Larry Williams, The Coasters, Dr. Feelgood, Ray Charles, Billy Lee Riley, Chan Romero and others.  Here is the complete setlist from their Cavern shows:

Happy Birthday Jerry Lee Lewis!

"The Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis was born this day in 1935 in Ferriday, LA.  The original "wild man" of rock & roll continues to thrill audiences to this day!  He signed to Sun Records in 1956 releasing "Crazy Arms" as his first single.  He was also the studio's piano player later that year for other artist sessions including among them Carl Perkins' "Matchbox", "Your True Love", "Put Your Cat Clothes On" and others as well as Billy Lee Riley's "Flying Saucers Rock 'n' Roll".  Here's a look through the years at "The Killer"...

Wilbert Harrison dies this day in 1994

Wilbert Harrison dies this day in 1994 at the age of 65.  His biggest hits "Kansas City" (1959) and "Let's Work Together" (1969) came 10 years apart but he toured regularly until the time of his death.  The Beatles covered "Kansas City" on their Beatles For Sale LP.  Several others covered "Kansas City" including Little Richard, Dion, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Wanda Jackson and Brenda Lee. Canned Heat had a hit with "Let's Work Together" in 1970 on their Future Blues LP.  The Kentucky Headhunters also covered it for the movie soundtrack of Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.  Here's the originals and fun covers to enjoy...
