Third Man Records releases for Record Store Day 2012

Our favorite local record label (heck, it's our favorite record label anywhere) has some exciting releases for Record Store Day this April 21st, 2012.  So many cool releases but the one that really got my attention is the liquid filled single from Jack White (pictured above).  See below for all the fun releases:

Chuck Berry releases "Johnny B. Goode" this day in 1958

Chuck Berry released the iconic "Johnny B. Goode" this day in 1958.  It peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot R&B Sides chart and #8 on their top 100.  Rolling Stone magazine placed the song at #1 of it's 100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time list.  A partial list of artists that have covered the song live or on album include:  AC/DC, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Buck Owens, Dion, Elton John, Elvis Presley, Grateful Dead, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimi Hendrix, John Fogerty, John Mayer, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Lyrnyrd Skynyrd, Peter Tosh, Phish, Prince, The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, Stray Cats, The Who and many more!

Happy Birthday Eric Clapton!

Eric Clapton was born this day in 1945 in Ripley, Surrey, England.  Few artists can truly live up to the title "legendary" but it's impossible to not attach that title to Clapton's name.  His time in The Yardbirds, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Blind Faith, Cream, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Derek & The Dominos and his extensive solo career have had an influence that few (if any) have achieved.  He's also the only artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 3 times...as a solo artist, a member of The Yardbirds and with Cream.  Enjoy a small sampling of his brilliant career:

The Yardbirds- "I Wish You Would"

Cream- "Strange Brew"

Derek & The Dominos- "It's Too Late" (on The Johnny Cash Show)

"After Midnight" (with Steve Winwood)

"Bell Bottom Blues"

"Tears In Heaven"

"Layla"

Son House was born this day in 1902

Son House was born Eddie James House, Jr. this day in 1902.  He first recorded for Paramount in 1930 but those recordings didn't sell well due to the depression.  He was rediscovered in the mid-60's and recorded and toured until the time of his death in 1988.  Enjoy some select videos as we remember this great blues man!

"Preachin' Blues"

"Downhearted Blues"

"My Black Mama" (with Buddy Guy)

"Death Letter"
