Columbia drops Johnny Cash this day in 1986

Johnny Cash was dropped from Columbia Records this day in 1986 after spending 28 years with the label.  Before joining Columbia in 1958, Cash began his recording career at Sun Records in 1955.  After being dropped from Columbia, he had an unsuccessful run at Mercury Records until Rick Rubin rejuvenated his career on his American Recordings label in 1994.  Cash would record with them until the time of his death in 2003.
